Image Linked to a Colorboxed Image

I have my nice “About Us” page contained in a colorbox now. And the link that leads to it is embedded in a text area of a View’s header. But what I really want is to have a fancy about us button image that links to the colorbox.

I have the image link module installed but that just allows for a regular hyperlink. The way that I load colorbox in this case is via “colorbox-load” within the tags of the link itself. So, I simply added a piece of content that allows for full html (and isn’t available for anyone

else to author), uploaded my button to the custom images folder that I have within /sites and it works really well. Here is the way the link looks in the body of the html body field for the piece of content that i added. after the content is in place, i simply add it to the page via Panels, referencing it by the name of the node.

this is what the html looks like in the editor of the piece of content.

<p>
<a class=”colorbox-load” href=”content/media/about-docresourceorg?width=550&amp;height=600&amp;iframe=true”><img src=”sites/images/buttons/About1.png” /></a></p>

The images above show the end result. I still need to move the button around with a bit of CSS but that will be pretty straightforward.

Here are the highlights of making this work:

  • Image uploaded manually, not a part of a piece of content
  • Hyperlink embedded in the body field of a Full HTML Drupal piece of content
  • That content piece added to a Panel Page

Colorbox and Galleries

I hate to have to go back to this. I really do. But I have tried all sorts of different ways to approach images galleries and I believe that Colorbox is the best way to go. And I have tried other ways. Lord, have I! All the modules have good points and bad points and all of them are well put together but I believe that this is the best.

I found this three part series on Colorbox on Vimeo from FRJO, (Drupal Handle) the guy who wrote Colorbox. This is a good series and he does a fine job explaining the rather cryptic subject of creating image galleries in Drupal. Check it out at:

Also, make sure to check out part II of the series, which explains how to integrate the Insert module with Colorbox…

Colorbox

I’m installing the Colorbox Module in Sand today and will then install in Prod. I don’t have a compelling reason to install it now; my site doesn’t focus on images. But I believe that there will be media that I’ll want to show. It’s a web site after all. And at some point I’ll need to be able to do this.

There are MANY gallery options in Drupal. My needs are pretty simple so I don’t feel the need to get anything too fancy.

This mod has been around for a long time and has 100ks of installs. So it is nice and stable and well maintained. It requires a jscript library that you can download.
